This session will address aspects of TEN-T policy which are vital to pave the way for a sustainable and efficient transport policy, as it has been shaped in the Roadmap towards a Single European Transport Area.
The second part of the session (11:30 – 13:00 h) will discuss about how to stimulate sustainable and efficient transport corridors, especially for freight, with a particular focus on issues such as waterborne transport, inter-modality and e-freight.
The session will focus on the concept of innovation pipelines. The objective of such pipelines is to ensure synergies between EU policy on Research & Innovation (H2020), the Connecting Europe Facility as well as directives and agencies, on the topic of innovation and new technologies, including forward-looking ITS solutions, on the TEN-T network. Particular attention is given to core network corridors

This session will address three key pillars of the ERTMS Coordinator's breakthrough programme: the maturity of the system, a realistic deployment plan based on dialogues with Member States and its financing aspect. The session will be chaired by Karel Vinck, the European Coordinator for ERTMS, who will be supported by national experts.
Natural gas offers important environmental benefits in terms of reduction of CO2 and pollutant emissions, in particular when it is blended with bio-methane.
Directive 2014/94/EU "on the deployment alternative fuels infrastructures" establishes a regulatory framework for Member States to promote alternative fuels such as natural gas as fuels for transport and to make the relevant infrastructure available. The TEN-T policy and its financial instrument Connecting Facility Fund (CEF) has been key to promote innovation in transport and to launch the build-up of EU infrastructures for the use of natural gas in transport.
The workshop on L-CNG aims to ascertain how the synergic effect of these EU policy actions can enhance the take-up of the alternatively fuelled transport systems' market and the competitiveness of the European industry, so as to promote economic growth and employment.
This session is based on the pipeline concept presented at the general innovation session of Monday morning, and will, as a first example, establish a specific innovation pipeline for Hydrogen (H2) and Fuel Cell technology (FCH).
The implementing instrument is the joint innovation workshop, for which the Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Joint Undertaking of the H2020 Programme becomes a partner of the TEN-T/CEF Programme, with the political objective to give H2 and FCH a strong coordinated push for its market roll-out on TEN-T, by proving that this new technology is ready for mass deployment.
The four facets of the workshop contain also a presentation of the European Investment Bank (EIB) adapting the new financial instruments of Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and Juncker Initiative to the specific needs of innovative projects as well as a breakout exhibition on H2 & FCH.
The EU Rail Freight Corridors play a central role in the Commission's rail freight policy. The workshop will bring together the managers of EU Rail Freight Corridors and their customers and stakeholders, take stock of the experiences from the establishment and initial phase of operation of the corridors, highlight important milestones and achievements and discuss prospects, plans and needs for their further development as backbone of the European freight transport system.
The TEN-T Days Exhibition will feature an indoor showcase of over 40 different TEN-T projects and initiatives, all helping to improve European transport infrastructure. An outdoor display featuring innovative hardware will also provide you with the opportunity to ride and drive electric and hydrogen vehicles around Riga's beautiful Esplanade. Find out more…

This ambitious project would also serve as the first step in Latvia’s transition to European railway-gauge technical standards and will be one of the focal points of the Ten-T Days 2015.
